Top 3 Ice Packs for Traveling with Breast milk
My most popular post to date has been about the pumping and traveling system I honed over months of business travel. It has resonate with women who have to pack up for weekend trip or their first overnight without their new baby as much as it has with those like me who keep busy business travel schedules.
I tried at least 10 different cooler, bottle and ice pack combinations trying to find something portable, discrete, effective and not too expensive for my regular trips. Here are my top 3 ice packs. You should also read my post on the best coolers for traveling with breastmilk that inspired this one.
Durable and Long Lasting: Yeti Ice
I recommended this one as a “bonus” on my cooler post because it’s a classic, trusted brand for keeping things cold. The Yeti Ice just lasts a long time and keeps things super cold. Definitely a good buy if you are traveling and will be away from a refrigerator. Can be reused for trips to the beach or camping in the future! A little bit bigger (although comes in different sizes), so may not be for a lightweight set-up.
Last Beyond the Baby Phase: Lunchbox Coolers
Something that can be really frustrating about the baby phase is that a lot of gear you buy is only really needed for 3-6 months. Cooler packs are something that you’ll use throughout your kids life - packing up for trips to the beach, packing lunchboxes, etc… These are cute and will last beyond packing breastmilk. They come in a bunch of different patterns. I’ve also found ones that have things like dinosaurs on them if your kids are into something like that!
Purpose-Made: Medela Breastmilk Coolers
The ice packs that come with the medela pump and cooler can also be bought individually on Amazon. They are good for fitting into small spaces and fitting around bottles due to their shape. I’ve never had a problem with them keeping cold long enough for short trips.
